SMART UTILITY & RUGGED DESIGN: THE DEFENDER SUV INTERIOR

The new Defender interior has a funny way of making the phrase "rugged luxury" sound less like marketing jargon and more like an actual engineering goal. After all, this is an SUV designed to crawl over rocky terrain, ford streams, and haul your gear, all while looking elegant enough to arrive at a dinner party once the adventure is over.

That split personality is just as present from behind the wheel, where premium materials surround clever storage and easy-to-clean floor mats and trunk linings. These durable details and upscale touches might seem like they do not mesh well, but with one test drive at Land Rover Bedford, you will see that they have no trouble getting along.

THE 2026 DEFENDER INTERIOR IS RIFE WITH MODERN LUXURY

Whether you are interested in the compact, two-door Defender 90, the spacious, three-row Defender 130, or the in-between option that takes the form of the Defender 110, one thing is certain: The Defender blurs the line between capable and comfortable like few others can.

The Defender interior does not trace the traditional luxury SUV formula from any of its competitors. You will not find wide swaths of wood grain or other accents that, while attractive at first, typically do not hold up to the rough lifestyle these rugged SUVs are built for.

Instead, the dashboard layout feels more industrial, with visible structural elements like a crossbar that your passenger can hold onto when things get unstable on challenging terrain.

That is not to say that luxury gets left out of the equation. Depending on the configuration, you can find Defender models with premium Windsor leather upholstery, or a rather convincing faux-leather covering, dubbed "Resist", that is more designed for easy cleanup and stain resistance. You will also have upscale touches like configurable cabin lighting, backlit doorsill trim and treadplates, and the signature Alpine lights, which are essentially small windows cut into the upper roof sides, allowing extra light to flood into the rear of the cabin.

There is plenty of tech to be found inside the Defender SUV lineup as well, starting with the 13.1" Touchscreen infotainment display equipped with Pivi Pro. You can also have wireless device charging alongside available wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ to help keep your cabin free of clutter.

If you thought comfort stopped with leather seats and cool interior lighting, think again. The Defender SUVs can be configured with Three-zone Climate Control, which keeps you and your passengers at comfortable temperatures throughout the cabin. Plus, you can choose available heated and ventilated 14-way power-adjustable front seats, heated and cooled second-row captain's chairs, and even heated third-row seats with the right Defender configuration.

Cabin air purification may not seem like a huge benefit, but when urban air pollution, wildfire smoke, or even heavy spring pollen fills the air, you will be happy you have it. You can also include an air quality sensor to keep track of what you are driving through.

All of this upscale grandeur, and we are just scratching the surface. While the three Defender models all have different wheelbases and therefore different storage capacities, it is how they use the space that matters. In each variant, you will find pockets, cubbies, and storage compartments that make road-tripping easier, even when traveling with the whole family. Plus, if the cargo area is packed to the rafters, a ClearSight interior rear view mirror can still provide a clear view of the road behind you.

DEFENDER INTERIOR ACCESSORIES HELP PREPARE FOR YOUR BIGGEST ADVENTURES

We have covered plenty of Defender party tricks so far, but you can take things even further with accessories from our Land Rover dealership. The Click and Go Base setup attaches to the back of the front seats and can be used with tablet holders, clothing hangers, bag holders, and more. You can also add a genuine dash cam that is designed to be wired directly into your vehicle.

Other Defender interior accessories include a flat load floor tray that maximizes cargo space, a series of partition options between the cargo area and the seats that help keep your cargo in place, and deep-sided rubber floor mats that are ideal for protecting your carpet from mud, salt, and the occasional coffee spill. You can even add a spill-resistant pet water bowl, so the family dog can happily join in your off-road festivities.

DEFENDER 90 INTERIOR FEATURES & DIMENSIONS

The Defender 90 is the most focused version of the new Defender SUV, offering two doors, five seats, up to 58.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded, and 15.6 cubic feet with those rear seats in place. Passenger comfort is standard, with 39.1 inches of front legroom and 36.6 inches in the rear, while headroom measures 40.6 inches up front and up to 38.6 inches in the back.

As for features, the Defender 90 comes standard with 12-way semi-power-adjustable, heated front seats, while you can add ventilation and two additional seat adjustments. A sliding panoramic roof is also available.

As the middle ground of the Defender lineup, the Defender 110 gives you the best of both worlds. With a three-row layout, you access 10.7 cubic feet behind the third row, with 34.6 cubic feet behind the second row. With all rear seats folded flat, the Defender 110 offers up to 69 cubic feet of cargo room with three rows or nearly 79 cubic feet in two-row form.

The feature list is impressive as well, with a Meridian™ Sound System, Resist upholstery, 12-way heated memory front seats with two-way manual headrests, and a cargo space cover.

The Defender 130 is the largest of the new Defender models, and it comes with the same great upscale driving experience and amenities as its smaller siblings; however, it differs most in terms of passenger and interior space.

Interior volume behind the third row measures up to 15.3 cubic feet, up to 48.8 cubic feet behind the second row, and up to 89 cubic feet behind the first row, depending on your seating arrangement. Speaking of which, you can have seating for eight with two bench seats, or seating for seven by choosing second-row captain's chairs instead.

Yes, it does. Even if you choose the Resist seat upholstery, you get an upscale, leather-like look and feel that does not fall short of your premium expectations.
